Custom NCR Books: The Professional Standard for Secure Record-Keeping
While glued pads are ideal for quick handovers, Custom NCR Books are the gold standard for businesses requiring an immutable, chronological audit trail. At Printways, our bespoke perforated carbonless books are engineered for commercial fleets, site engineers, tradespeople, and accounting departments across the UK. With heavy-duty stapled binding, durable black spine taping, and clean micro-perforations, these books ensure your client leaves with a crisp copy while your master record remains securely bound inside the book for legal compliance.
Duplicate, Triplicate & 4-Part Perforated NCR Books

Standard Sizes, Paper Sequencing & Perforation Specifications
Every perforated NCR book is constructed with a 12mm perforated binding margin on the left-hand edge (or top edge upon request). Below are the dimensions, sheet coatings, and colour sequences we supply:
Book Size | Trim Dimensions | Perforated Sheets vs Fast Sheets | Paper Colour Sequence | Primary Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
A4 NCR Books | 210 x 297 mm | Duplicate: 1 Tear-out / 1 Fast | Top: White (CB) • Copy 1: Yellow (CFB) • Copy 2: Pink (CF) | A4 Duplicate Invoice Books, Legal Contracts, Site Reports |
A5 NCR Books | 148 x 210 mm | Duplicate: 1 Tear-out / 1 Fast | Top: White (CB) • Copy: Yellow or Pink (CF) | A5 Triplicate Delivery Books, Service Sheets, Job Books |
A6 NCR Books | 105 x 148 mm | Duplicate: 1 Tear-out / 1 Fast | Top: White (CB) • Copy: Yellow (CF) | Pocket Receipt Books, Handover Slips, Valet Receipts |

*CB = Coated Back, CFB = Coated Front & Back, CF = Coated Front. Tear-out dimensions will be slightly reduced by the 12mm binding margin unless ordered with oversized paper.
Why Choose Bound NCR Books Over Glued Pads?
While glued tear-off NCR pads allow all sheets of a set to be removed, this can create audit chaos if individual copies are misplaced in the field. Custom NCR Books solve this issue completely: by keeping the bottom copy permanently stapled into the binding, you maintain a chronological, tamper-proof record of every single transaction your company executes.
Saddle-Stitched & Spine-Taped
Our books are heavy-duty wire stitched (stapled) through a 500-micron grey board back and durable card front, then sealed with professional black cloth spine tape to ensure pages never pull loose.
Impact Sequential Numbering
Consecutive sequential numbering is applied using high-pressure mechanical crash numbering. This transfers the unique serial number clearly through all parts of the set for HMRC tax compliance.
Attached Wrap-Around Card Shield
Supplied with a heavy wrap-around card writing shield affixed to the back cover. Simply fold it between sets before writing to prevent chemical transfer onto sets further down the book.
Frequently Asked Questions About NCR Book Printing
Common questions about ordering custom perforated carbonless invoice books in the UK.
How many sets are in a custom NCR book?
Standard Printways NCR books contain 50 complete sets. In a 2-part duplicate book, this equates to 100 printed sheets (50 perforated originals + 50 bound copies). In a 3-part triplicate book, it contains 150 printed sheets (50 perforated originals + 50 perforated middle sheets + 50 bound bottom sheets).
How does the perforation work in an NCR book?
We apply a mechanical micro-perforation roughly 12mm from the bound edge. In a 2-part duplicate book, only the top white sheet is perforated, allowing it to be torn out and handed to the client, while the yellow copy sheet is un-perforated and remains firmly bound in the book. In triplicate books, both the top and middle sheets are perforated.
What is spine taping and why is it essential?
Spine taping is a heavy-duty textured cloth tape applied directly over the heavy wire staples on the book's spine. It prevents exposed staple edges from catching or scratching surfaces, reinforces the structural integrity of the book during rugged field use, and provides a polished, professional executive presentation.
Can I add sequential numbering and terms on the reverse?
Yes. Consecutive sequential numbering in bold red or black ink is available across all sheets in each set, starting from 0001 or any specified sequence. We can also print your official Terms & Conditions, warranties, or payment instructions on the reverse side of each sheet using light grey ink to prevent show-through.
What is the difference between Duplicate and Triplicate books?
A Duplicate NCR book (2-part) yields 1 removable copy for the customer and 1 permanent copy in the book. A Triplicate NCR book (3-part) yields 2 removable copies (e.g., 1 for the client, 1 for the delivery driver or site manager) and 1 permanent copy retained in the book for accounting records.
Is an integrated wrap-around writing shield included?
Yes, all our NCR books are manufactured with a wrap-around card cover shield. When opened, the extended card flap inserts directly underneath the set you are currently writing on, shielding the remaining 49 sets in the book from receiving unwanted pressure marks or carbon transfer.

How to Prepare Your Artwork
To ensure the highest quality print, please supply your artwork in PDF format. We recommend saving your files with the 'High Quality Print' preset. Here are a few essential tips for the perfect print:
- Bleed Area: Please include a minimum of 3mm bleed on all edges of your design. This ensures no white borders are left when we trim your product to the final size.
- Safe Zone: Keep all important text, contact details, and logos at least 3mm away from the trim edge.
- Resolution: All images and graphics should be supplied at 300dpi (dots per inch) for crisp, clear, and professional results.
- Colour Mode: Convert all RGB and spot colours to CMYK format before exporting your file to avoid unexpected colour shifts.
Understanding Paper Stocks & Finishes
Choosing the right paper stock can dramatically change the feel of your product. Here is a quick guide to our most popular options:
- Silk / Uncoated: A natural, non-reflective finish that is highly readable and easy to write on. Perfect for letterheads, forms, and elegant brochures.
- Gloss: A shiny coating that makes colours pop and images look incredibly vibrant. Ideal for flyers, posters, and photograph-heavy designs.
- Matt Lamination: A smooth, sophisticated finish that dulls reflections and adds a premium, tactile feel to business cards and luxury presentation folders.
- Spot UV & Foil: For maximum visual impact, add a glossy raised layer or metallic foil to specific parts of your design to draw the eye instantly.
