Spot UV Finishing

Draw attention to what matters most. Apply a high-gloss varnish to specific areas of your print for a striking, multi-textured finish.

Create a Lasting Impression with Tactile Contrast

Spot UV (Ultraviolet) is a premium finishing technique where a clear, high-gloss varnish is applied to specific areas of a printed design. This varnish is cured with UV light to instantly harden it, creating a raised, shiny layer that contrasts beautifully with the underlying material. It's a powerful tool for highlighting logos, text, or patterns, adding depth and drawing the eye to the most important parts of your design.

The most dramatic and popular effect is achieved when Spot UV is applied over a Matt Lamination. The contrast between the super-flat matt surface and the ultra-glossy UV area creates a stunning visual and tactile experience that screams sophistication and quality.

Common Uses for Spot UV:

  • Highlighting a logo on a business card
  • Making a headline pop on a brochure cover
  • Creating a subtle, high-end pattern
  • Adding texture to images on a book cover
  • Enhancing luxury packaging
  • Accentuating details on presentation folders

Spot UV is a finishing process that adds value to many of our core services. It is most effective when paired with Matt Lamination. For an even more luxurious finish, consider combining Spot UV with Foil Stamping to create a truly unforgettable piece of print.

Spot UV FAQs

Do I need to supply a special artwork file?

Yes. You will need to provide your main print artwork as one file, and a second file (the 'spot UV mask') as a solid black shape showing exactly where the varnish should be applied.

Can Spot UV be applied to any paper?

For the best results, we strongly recommend applying Spot UV over a Matt Lamination. This creates the contrast that makes the effect so stunning. It is not suitable for uncoated papers.

Is it durable?

Yes, the UV-cured varnish is very durable and helps to protect the underlying print, adding to the longevity of the product.
